Woe Unto Me are a band from Belarus that plays funeral doom metal and this is a review of their 2017 double album "Among The Lightened Skies" which will be released on September 29th by Solitude Productions.
A very slow and dark sound starts off the album along with some atmospheric sound s a few seconds alter which also leads up to a heavier funeral doom metal direction a few seconds later while the vocals are mostly deep death metal growls along with the solos and leads being very dark and melodic.
Most of the tracks are very long and epic in length while a great amount of melody can be heard in the guitar riffing along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and keyboards can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with some spoken word parts.
Melodic vocals can be heard on some of the songs while acoustic guitars are also added onto some of the tracks and they also give the music more of a progressive feeling along with a couple also adding in a small amount of saxophones and on the second disc the music gets more experimental, all of the songs stick to a very slow musical direction.
Woe Unto Me plays a style of funeral doom metal on this first disc which is very heavy and atmospheric while the second disc displays more of a progressive and experimental style, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover hopelessness, grief and memory themes.
In my opinion Woe Unto Me are a very great sounding atmospheric and progressive funeral doom metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this double album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "If Life That Never Showed It's Face" and "Drawn By Mourning" "Leave Me To My Sorrows" and "My Joy Lies Behind". 8 out of 10.
