Plateau Sigma/The True Shape Of Eskatos/Beyond Productions/2014 CD Review

  Plateau  Sigma  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  funeral  doom/death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "The  True  Shape  Of  Eskatos"  which  was  released  by  Beyond  Productions.

  A  very  dark,  clean  and  atmospheric  sound  starts  off  the  album  and  a  few  seconds  later  the  music  starts  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  doom  metal  direction  while  also  keeping  the  atmospheric  elements  and  after  awhile  spoken  word  parts  are  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  on  the  second  track  death  metal  growls  are  added  into  the  music  and  they  are  a  huge  part  of  the  songs  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them

  At  times  melody  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  songs  along  with  a  small  amount  of  melodic  guitar  leads  and  at  times  clean  singing  can  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  tracks  along  with  some  of  the  songs  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  as  the  album  progresses  the  vocals  also  mix  in  some  high  pitched  screams  in  with  thee  growls.

  The  clean  parts  that  where  presented  on  the  intro  also  make  a  return  at times  and  it  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  progressive  feeling  along  with  a  few  seconds  of  female  vocals  on  one  of  the  track  while  some  of  the  later  songs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  saxophones  and  flutes  which  also  add  more  diversity  to  the  album  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  bring  in  small  amounts  of  acoustic  guitars.

  Plateau  Sigma  creates  a  style  of  funeral  doom/death  metal  that  is  very  heavy,  melodic,  atmospheric  and  progressive  all  at  the  same  time  and  it  also  adds  new  elements  to  this  genre,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Death, Rituals,  Ancient  Mythology,  Religion,  Nostalgia,  Love,  Esotericism  and  Science.

  In  my  opinion  Plateau  Sigma  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  and  progressive  funeral  doom/death  metal  band  an d if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Stalingrad"  "The  River  1917"  and  "Amber  Eyes".  8  out  of  10.
