Mologa are a band from Russia that plays apocalyptic dark-trip folk with elements of electro- industrial and traditional rock and this is a review of their self titled 2014 album which was released by Casus Belli Musica.
Nature sounds start off the album along with some traditional Russian folk music instruments and melodic female vocals which gives the recording a ritualistic and pagan feeling and on the second track distorted guitars and elements of industrial are added into the bands musical sound and as time goes on by the music gets more experimental while the main element is folk.
Traces of trip hop can be heard in the bands musical sound at times as well as a great amount of avant garde structures while the heavier sections of the music bring in an influence of metal along with a good amount of melodic guitar riffing and as the album progresses the music starts getting more diverse and more rock orientated guitar leads are added into some of the later tracks.
Mologa creates a very original sound with their music taking traditional Russian folk music and addign in elements of metal, trip hop, rock, industrial and electro music to create a musical style that stands out on its sound, the production sounds very dark while the lyrics are written in Russian and cover Slavic Paganism themes.
In my opinion Mologa are a very great sounding apocalyptic dark, tip folk band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Gore" "Mohzno Poznati" and "Pro Kota". 8 out of 10.
