Shadow Of The Torturer/Dronestown/Memento Mori/2014 CD Review

Shadow  Of  The  Torturer  are  a  band  with  members  from  both  Washington  and  Oregon  that  plays  a  mixture  of  doom,  sludge,  death  metal  and  drone  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "Dronestown"  which  was  released  by  Memento  Mori.

A  very  dark  sound  along  with  some  grim  vocals  that  bring  a  black  metal  feeling  to  the  recording  while  also  utilizing  spoken  word  parts  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  powerful  sounding  bass  guitars  and  ambient  drone  style  synths  which  leads  up  to  a  very  heavy  and  melodic  doom  metal  sound.

All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  all  3  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  after  awhile  the  vocals  get  more  deeper  and  it  gives  the  bands  musical  sound  more  of  a  death  metal  feeling  and  on  the  second  track  spoken  word  samples  are  brought  into  the  album  along  with  the  drones  getting  more  powerful  which  also  leads  to  the  music  getting  heavier  again  as  well  as  mixing  the  spoken  words  with  aggressive  screams  and  demonic  growls.

The  last  track  starts  off with  some  clean  playing  and  evil  background  sounds  before  making  a  return  back  to  a  heavier  sound,  all  3  of  the  tracks  stick  to  a  very  heavy  and  slow  sound  from  beginning  to  the  end  of  the  recording  and  they  also  prove  you  can  still  be  very  heavy  without  the  use  of  fast  playing  and  blast  beats.

Shadow  Of  The  Torturer  create  a  very  slow,  dark  and  heavy  sound  with  their  music  along  with  an  evil  atmosphere  and  this  is  one  of  the  heaviest  doom  metal  bands  I  have  ever  heard,  the production  sounds  very  dark,  heavy  and  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  Jim  Jones  Massacre.

In  my  opinion  Shadow  Of  The  Torturer  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  doom,  death  metal,  sludge  and  drone  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK   "Afterlife  Cities".  8/5  out  of  10.

Blackwolfgoat/Drone Maintenance/Small Stone/2014 CD Review

Blackwolfgoat  are  a  band  from  Massachusetts  that  plays  a  mixture  of ambient,  drone  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "Drone  Maintenance  which  will  be  released  in  August  by  Small  Stone.

Dark  and  distorted  sounding  drones start  off  the  album  with  some  spoken  word  parts  and  after  the  intro  programmed  beats,  melodic  guitar  leads  and  powerful  sounding  bass  guitars  are  added  into  the  music  and  the  following  track  sees  the  band  adding  in  more  clean  guitar  playing  and  there  is  a  great  amount  of  diversity  presented  throughout  the  recording.

On  the  4th  track  the  band  go  more  into  an  acoustic  folk  direction  before  returning  back  to  a  drone  direction  on  the  following  track  and  bringing  back  the  spoken  word  parts  that  where  present  on  the  first  song  which  leads  up  to  a  more  experimental  rock  direction  on  the  following  song  and  it  kicks  completely  into  that  direction  as  well  as  adding  in  some  high  pitched  screams  that  are  very  close  to  black  metal.

Song  number  seven  starts  out  with  distorted  yet  melodic  guitar  leads  and  background  noises  while  the  following  song  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  seeing  the  band  return  back  to  the  more  acoustical  direction  and  the  following  track  is  a  minute  long  and  shows  the  band  adding  in  a  more  drone  and  heavy  doom  sound  which  also  continues  on  the  last  track.

Blackwolfgoat  creates  an  album  that  is  very  hard  to  classify  with  the  music  combining  ambient,  drone,  experimental  and  a  small  dose  of  doom  metal  to  create  the  sound  that  is  present  on  the  recording,  the production  sound s very  professional  while  the  song  themes  cover  utopia.

In  my  opinion  Blackwolfgoat  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  ambient,  drone,  progressive,  experimental  and  doom  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Sunfall"  "Night  heat"  "White  Hole"  and  "Cyclopean  Utopia".  8  out  of  10.

Vacuus/Self Titled/2014 Full Length Review

Vacuus  are  a  1  man  band  from  Florida  that  plays  a  mixture  of  ambient,  and   funeral  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  titled  and  self  released  2014  album.

A  very  dark  ambient  and  atmospheric  sound  starts  off  the  album  which  gives  the  recording  and  epic  feeling  along  with  some  synths  and  you  can  also  hear  drones  and  soundscapes  in  the  musical  sound  and  a  few  minutes  later  distorted  guitars  make  their  presence  known  in  the  music  and  they  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

All  4  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  album  divided  into  2  different  concepts  and  the  guitar  on  the  first  2  tracks  is  all  open  note  riffing  and  on  the  3rd  track  they  start  using  more  chords  and  bring  a  more  funeral  doom  metal  sound  to  the  music  as  well a s  mixing  them  with  drones.

After  awhile  the  guitars  bring  in  some  clean  playing  which  gives  the  music  a  more  post  rock  feeling  and  the  whole  album  is  all  instrumental  and  the  music  sticks  to  a  slow  and  ambient  direction  from  beginning  to  end  while  having  some  heaviness  to  it  at  times.

Vacuus  creates  a  very  dark,  instrumental,  and  original  sound  with  his  music  focusing  more  on  an  ambient  drone  style  while  also  bringing  in  guitars  and  adding  in  elements  of  funeral  doom  metal  at  times  to  create  a  musical  style  of  his  own  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  lo-fi  and  ritualistic  sound  while  the  album  is  divided  into  2  different  concepts  with  the  first  half  covering  The  Year  of  The  Inferno  and  the  second  part  The  Carbon  Space.

In  my  opinion  Vacuus  is  a  very  great  sounding  instrumental  mixture  of  ambient,  drone  and  funeral  doom  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "The  Carbon  Space  Part  One".  8  out  of  10.

The Cold View/Wires Of Woe, Ways of Waste/Endless Winter/2014 CD Review

The  Cold  View  are  a  1  man  band  from  Germany  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  ambient,  drone  and  funeral  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2014  album  "Wires  Of  Woe,  Ways  of  Waste"  which  was  released  by  Endless  Winter.

Harsh  noises  and  drones  start  off  the  album  along  with  a  mixture  of  growls  and  screams  which  also  gives  the  music  a  black  metal  feeling  and  after  awhile  synths  find  their  way  into  the  music  and  the  recording  also  has  an  experimental  and  avant  garde  edge  along  with  all  of  the  songs  being very  long  and  epic  in  length.

Guitars  are  mostly  background noises  that  have  no  rhythm  or  emotion  to  them  and  you  can  alos  hear  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars  in  the  music  at  times  and  they  bring  a  more  ritualistic  feeling  to  the  recording  and  on  the  second  track  the  synths  add  in  more  elements  of  funeral  doom  and  dark  ambient.

After  awhile  distorted  yet  melodic  guitars  leads  find  their  way  into  the  music  which  leads  to  the  music  sounding  more  metal  along  with  some  slow  yet  dark  heavy  rhythms  being  added  onto  the  recording  and  the  music  gets  more  heavy  and  dirge  like  on  the  following  track  and  the  last  song  sees  the  album  going  for  more  of  a  dark  and  atmospheric  ambient  direction  while  still  having  a  funeral  doom  metal  sound.

The  Cold  View  bring  in  a  more  heavier  funeral  doom  metal  with  this  recording  along  with  the  music  being  very  atmospheric  and  experimental  with  elements  of  avant  garde,  drone  and  ambient,  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  heavy  sound  while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  dealing with  the  alienation  from  the  natural  world,  the  loss  of  identity  that  comes  along  with  the  replacement  of  ideal  values  with  an  technocratic  and  material  culture.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great sounding  recording  from  The  Cold  View  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  drone  and  funeral  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Woe"  and  "Waste".  8  out  of  10.

Banished Souls Ov Forbidden Desire Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?
1. Dave: Things have slowed down a little lately. We've been recording a few things and we have some ideas in mind, such as making an album about driving which people can listen to while driving. We're also considering another part in the Freedom series but we're not sure yet.

2.Recently you have released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the new recording and also how does it differ
from the stuff you have released in the past?
2. Dave: I love the sound. I think it differs greatly because we worked with another metal band who already has an established sound.
They sent us some drum tracks and other bits to play with and play over, which was really fun. We typically never used drums until recently, and the drums that GWYF sent us were brilliant.

3.I have noticed the last 2 albums where in 2 different volumes, was this meant to be a double album?
3. Dave: Well not really. We did that album and had a great time doing it and listening to it, but a while late we though "Hey, this doesn't actually sound very metal or powerful at all" but we didn't want to bin it. So we thought "Well let's make part II?" and so we did. We are releasing a 2CD set on our label Satanica, but we're not sure if we want it to be a Best Of compilation or perhaps the Freedom album as a double album.

4.The band started out more experimental but with the new album there is more black metal, is this the direction you will also be doing more of in the future or are you planning on sticking in a more experimental direction?
4. Jimmy: I think that we'll be working towards a more structured black metal sound but we'll still be experimenting trying to find our true sound. There isn't a genre out there that describes us, maybe one day we'll be able to create a defining sound and that will become a new genre ov music.

5.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
5. Dave: We like to explore sex, death, love occasionally (but usually the loss or hate side) and lately politics. I usually talk with Jimmy and we'll throw some ideas around and then he'll pen some riffs and music together and I'll get some lyrics down. We also did LFOF Part II because after we had the idea, we wanted to get it together for July 4th and luckily we did. One of our collaborators and a good friend, Lanza Manza, played it at his 4th of July party. We were thrilled.

6.I have read that the band was broken up for awhile, what was the cause of the split and also the decision to reform?
6. Dave: Well at the time, we felt BSOFD had run it's course. We hadn't had many ideas and when we did, we typically saved them for our solo albums and we both play pretty different genres seperatly. We stayed in touch however since we're all good friends and then we just started brainstorming more ideas and figured we'd comeback. So far our new work has fared better than our old work.

7.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Banished Souls ov Forbidden Desire'?
7. Dave: There's a bit of a story behind that. About 2 years ago, there were a few bands in our city and they all played the same kind of music, had the same basic names and MANY songs sounded the same. So we tried to think of what metal means to use personally and we came up with souls, banishment, hell, forbidden and desire. We tried to piece those together and it just came out as Banished Souls Ov Forbidden Desire.

8.On the bandcamp page you had plenty of albums, released in the last 2 years, do you feel this band puts a lot of time and effort into creating music?
8. Dave: Well yes and no. The first album we put quite a bit of effort into since at the time, we thought it would be just a one off kind of thing. But then we started getting some attention and we got on Satanica Productions, so we thought we'd keep going. We wanted to make the second album, Fornication In Flames, massive so we rushed it a little and it turned out really bad. Probably our worst if I'm honest.
But when our 3rd album got started, Hands Full Ov Hate, we took it slow and worked on it. We still feel it's our best album to date, both lyrically and musically. From then on, it was varying between quality and speed, so some albums are not as good as others, but we took our time with our recent albums and perfected them.

9.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
9. Dave: We typically perform at friends parties and birthday parties.
Our best would have to be Jimmy's birthday party, we had a great time and so did everyone else. We don't do anything majorly crazy on stage, aside from some screams and jumping around. We have band t-shirts and we're going to get pig masks soon, so things are going to get really different for onstage shows.

10.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
10. Dave: I'd really love to but Jimmy is a little hesitant about it, with good reason I suppose. We've had a few people get quite angry towards us and threaten us, so we're unsure on when or where we'd play.

11.According to the fb page the band was worked with both Depressive Illusions and Satanica, do you feel this 2 labels have been very helpful when it comes to getting your music out there heard?
11. Dave: They've been incredibly helpful, especially Depressive Illusions. I can't recall how many units we've sold but we've seen a few people post pictures of they're purchases. I've been told we have followings in most of Europe, especially Ukraine and France. Plus Satanica has really helped in getting us followings in New Zealand and Australia. We've been trying to crack the US and Canadian markets but they're not as big on us as other countries, the Freedom albums have helped us a little though (for Florida in particular).

12.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your recordings by fans
 of underground music?
12. Dave: The Ukrainian metal scene seems to really enjoy us as does New Zealand, we've had quite a few messages here and there from people telling us how much they enjoy our music. We're hoping to get into other underground scenes across the globe but it's not something we can force.

13.Are the band members also involved with any other musical projects or bands?
13. Dave: Oh heaps. I'm personally working with a few lo-fi pop artists on mixing and production while also handling a solo career of my own. Jimmy has been working on an exhaustive experimental solo album, which has gotten both praise and also hate. It's mostly just me and Jimmy these days as other members tend to come and go, or just move away unfortunately. We may be getting a new drummer and bass player soon, it's just that they aren't quite into this genre. Until then, we're still looking for a drummer and bass player.

14.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
14. Dave: Well for the older albums, we primarily listened to local bands and got influence from them. But for the more recent albums like LFOF 1, I'd been listening to a lot of The Cure and The Flaming Lips while Jimmy had been listening to a lot of 80s hair metal like Guns & Roses and the like. As for LFOF 2, we looked at metal more and took influence from artists such as God Wrought Your Faith (whom we ended up working with), The Big Isaac, HP Spacecraft and also Chainsaw Penis.

15.What are some of your non musical interests?
15. Dave: I read quite a bit and watch a lot of movies mostly, particularly films like Eraserhead. I'm a massive David Lynch fan.
Jimmy is huge on cars, spending his free time going for long drives or working on his car, while also looking at new cars.

16.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
16. Dave: Not that I can really think of. We'd like to thank all our fans for enjoying us and we're glad they enjoy our music as much as we did making it, and to also keep watching our bandcamp and twitter, since no doubt we'll have new things coming in the next few months.
We'd also like to thank you for doing this interview, it's been great sharing some of the lesser known details of the band and the music.

Of Solitude And Solemn Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project? Of Solitude and Solemn is a doom metal project that incorporates elements of warm symphonics and post-rock leads and builds. The theme of the music is often melancholy but in rather a bittersweet, warm way as opposed to a depressing way. It feels more human this way and the musical genre helps me portray it in a climactic, dramatic and easy to get lost in format that I think is very emotionally powerful. I use it to get a lot of negetivity out of my system, therefore to me it is a very personal project. It's been incredibly humbling to see others be emotionally touched by what I find to be a very personal, esoteric rendition of emotion that I felt only I could understand.
2.So far you have released a demo and a split album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on both recordings and also how do they differ from each other? The very first demo, the self-titled, is far doomier and oppressive where Starlight's Guide is more gentle, dreamier. This wasn't really a conscious decision, more just how the recordings turned out and I'm proud of both of them equally. I think the very first demo more reflects what the album will sound like when it is out but Starlight's Guide is no less powerful to me, and I'm equally as proud of it as anything I've ever done. In fact I think Guiding Light is my favorite recorded track I have out.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you explore with your music? Usually it reflects what I feel with my depression, anxiety and my difficult past. I don't like to be too obvious with it and I like leaving a lot open to interpretation and I also like twisting it in a way that it could be seen as a positive, warm message as opposed to just a negative one.
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Of Solitude And Solemn'? Solitude and solemnity are two of the main themes of the emotional side of what I do. Despite being grammatically incorrect it's easy to remember and represents the sound very well. I think if I went back in time I'd have chose something else but it just stuck so I'm happy to keep using it.
5.With this project you play all of the musical instruments and do all the vocals, do you feel this gives you more freedom to be creative with your musical sound? Absolutely. As aforementioned, OSaS is a very personal project that deals with my own deepest feelings in almost a similar way to rehabilitation. It would be great to join a band one day but OSaS will always be a solo project for this reason alone.
6.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest? I have indeed received interest. As of right now I just don't think I have anything worthwhile to release physically, but when that changes I will look into options for printing and distribution. Or just do it myself.
7.Recently you have released a split album with Courtsleet, what are your thoughts on the other band that has participated on this recording? Gavin is a fantastic, passionate guy and a great musician. Working with him on this split was a pleasure and the process was far more creatively involved by both of us than what you'd expect on most splits and as such both sides really deserve to be heard back to back.
8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of post rock and doom metal? Pretty overwhelming! Though my following has been small from both fans of post-rock and doom metal I have had some very humbling responses to it, and some very touching words. It's all a musician can really ask for!
9.Are you currently involved with any other musical projects these days? I'm involved in several, a black/doom metal solo project and an ambient drone solo project. I'll let other people find them, though...
10.Where do you see this project heading into musically during the future? Currently I have no more plans than the debut album, Shelter in the Dying Light. There's no doubt I will continue recording music after this but I think it will be a slow process as OSaS music cannot be forced. We'll see what the future holds! The idea of making a band out of it and perhaps playing shows has been on my mind but I'm not holding my breath.
11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays? Post-rock and doom metal bands were highly influential such as Mournful Congregation, My Dying Bride, Jakob and Mono. However I found other bands equally as influential such as greats like Summoning and Esoteric. These days I find myself listening to bands like Esoteric, Anathema, Bohren & der Club of Gore and Dead Can Dance. As for recent albums I've been into the new Lethian Dreams album is wonderful, as is the new Triptykon record.
12.What are some of your non musical interests? I'm very much into computers, love building them. I'm a very avid gaming enthusiast!
13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts? Thank you for your time, I hope you like the album when it's done! I may only make music for myself but the fact others are interested is very flattering.

Tonttu/Le Twisto Gnomique: Remix Und Remake/Panicmachine/2014 CD Review

Finland's  Tonttu  have  returned  with  a  new  album  which  continues  their  mixture  of  martial,  industrial,  ambient,  neo-folk,  psychedelic  and  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "Le  Twisto  Gnomique:  Remix  Und  Remake"  which  was  released  in  2014  by  Panicmachine.

Acoustic  guitar  playing  starts  off  the  album  which  gives  the  music  a  neo-folk  feeling  and  you  can  hear  some  demonic  vocals  being  utilized  in  the  background  which  leads  to  a  more  heavier  sound  that  leans  towards  depressive  black  metal  and  after  the  intro  more  avant  garde  sounds  are  added  in  along  with  the  acoustic  guitars  sounding  more  powerful.

Psychedelic  sounds  can  be  heard  in  the  background  along  with  some  ambient  style  synths  and  after  awhile elements  of  industrial  and  noise  are  added  into  the  music  along  with  some  robotic  sounds  and  they  also  bring  in  a  track  that  is  close  to  10  minutes  in  length  which  also  shows  them  adding  in  more  militant  and  martial  beats  along  with  some  melodic  clean  singing  vocals.

On  the  4th  track  the  band  go  into  a  more  extreme  metal  direction  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  and  they  also  add  in  a  good  amount  of  melodic  guitar  riffing  as  well  as  keeping  around  the  avant  garde  elements  of  previous  tracks  which  also  leads  up  to  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  while  the  following  track  sees  the  band  heading  into  a  more  ambient  and  experimental  direction  as  well  as  adding  in  elements  of  classical  music  and  spoken  word  parts  which  they  continue  with  on  the  following  track  as  well  along  with  some  melodic  gnome  chanting  and  the  last  track  sees  the  band  adding  more  electronic  music  into  their  martial  and  militant  sound.

Tonttu  continue  their  sound  that  is  hard  to  categorize  combining  elements  of  black  and  death  metal  in  their  heavy  side  while  also  being  very  experimental  and  adding  in  neo  folk,  ambient,  industrial  among  many  genres  into  their  musical  style,  the  production  sound s very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  occultism  and  anti  gnome  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Tonttu  and  if  you  are  looking  for  something  very  experimental  while  still  having  metal  roots,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Tonttuwasara"  "Saunatonttu"  and  "Sotep  Nirrus".  8  out  of  10.

HaatE Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?
HaatE is a project I created to make strange and experimental music. The kind of music that always remains in the underground, but that I really like it and I really needed to play.

2.Recently you have released your first album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?
Well, this album sounds very ambient and atmospheric, dark and gloomy but with a glimpse of hope on its path. I also like to put inside few elements of black metal, like screams and blast beats drums.

3.On the album while it was mostly ambient you also added in a few black metal screams in some sections, do you feel this gives your music a darker edge?
Yes, I do. Mainly because black metal is one of my favorite genres of music.

4.What are some of the themes and concepts you bring out with your music?
The themes on this album are completely based on nature, solitude and emptiness.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'HaatE'?
I wanted to name this project Haate Crystal, in honor of Wolves In The Throne Room. (They named a song “Hate Crystal”, I only wanted to add an “a” inside it), but working on the logo I thought that only HaatE looked best. So that’s it.
Afterwards I decided to name the 2nd song of the album “Crystal”, you can imagine why.

6.With this project you work all solo do you feel this gives you the freedom to be more creative with your music?
Absolutely I do. I cannot imagine Haate in any other way than a solo project.

7.The new album is going to be released on SixSixSix Music, how did you get in contact with this label and also how would you describe the support they have given you so far?
Well, I have known Steve, from SixSixSix Music, via Facebook, he contacted me for a compilation he was doing at the time. We’ve been in touch the past few months and finally, when I had this album done I submitted it to Steve. He enjoyed the album and he agreed to release my work under his label.
I can only be grateful towards Steve, he’s helping me a lot.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of dark ambient?
This work of mine is brand new, so I didn’t get so much feedback yet. But it’s going very well so far.

9.Are you also involved with any other musical projects?
Yes, I am. But I’m not gonna tell you their names.
I really want to keep it separate from those projects of mine.

10.Where do you see this project heading into musically during the future?
I’ll try to evolve my music. I don’t really want to be stuck in a single genre. I’m already writing some new stuff, but they’re still mere ideas, nothing concrete yet.
But probably my next work will sound more than a bit different to this album.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Well, this album was very influenced by music of Lustre, Elderwind, Ulver, Wolves In The Throne Room and Sunn O))).
While nowadays I’m listening closely to Nebula Orionis, Naglfar and also WITTR’s latest album.

12.What are some of your non musical interests?
Not much beside music. Sorry.

13.Before we wrap up this interview do you have any final words or thoughts?
I really want to thanks Steve from SixSixSix Music who has believed in my project, and to everyone who supports me.
If you want you can join my facebook page here:

Banished Souls Ov Forbidden Desire/God Wrought Your Faith/Land Full Ov FreeDoom:II:FreeDoom For All/2014 Full Length Review

This  is  a  review  of  the  second  volume  of  Land  Full  Of  FreeDoom  from  Banished  Souls  ov  Forbidden  Desire who  also  team  up  with  God  Wrought  Are  Faith  as  well  as  remaining  in  an  experimental  direction  with  the  second  installment  being  self  released  in  2014  and  called  "FreeDoom  For  All".

Programmed  drum  beats  and  synths  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  guitars  and  you  can  also  hear  some  industrial  metal  in  the  bands  musical  sound  and  on  the  second  track  the  music  gets  a  little  bit  more  heavier  and  melodic  and  spoken  word  parts  which  also  use  black  metal  screams  at  times.

The  guitar  leads  are  very  melodic  sounding  and  God Wrought  Your  Faith  re-do  Invade  us  With  Your  FreeDoom"  from  the first  volume  and  make  it  a  more  industrial  metal  song  mixed  in  with  some  black  metal  and  the  following  track  sees  the  band  adding  drones  into  their  musical  sound   along  with  every  song  sounding  very  different  from  each  other  and  as  the  album  progresses  elements  of  death  metal  can  be  heard.

Banished Souls Ov Forbidden Desire  have  a  more  heavier  sound  this  time  around  adding  more  death  and  black  metal  into t heir  musical  sound  while  still  being  very  experimental  and  hard  to  categorize,  the  production  sounds  very  heavy  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  United States,  political  and  humorous  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Banished  Souls  Ov Forbidden  Desire  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental  and  black  metal,  you  should c heck  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  March"  "Oprah  Is  The  Voice  Ov  Freedom"  "Here  Comes  The  Freedom"  and  "The  Day  Freedom  Died".  8  out  of  10.

Acoustic  guitar  playing  starts  off  the  ep  which  uses  a  mixture  of  both  finger  picking  and  full  chords  and  a  few  seconds  later  synths  are  added  into  the  music  which  leads  up  to  a  more  heavy  doom  metal  direction  which  also  uses  a  good  amount  of  melody  in  the  guitar  leads  and  riffs  bringing  in  a  post  rock  vibe  to  the  music.

After  awhile  the  music  gets  more  atmospheric  and  symphonic  along  with  some  growls  and  screams  that  bring  a  death  and  black  metal  feeling  to  the  music  and  there  is  a  good  mixture  of  both  clean  and  heavy  parts  throughout  the  recording  along  with  both  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  second  track  shows  the  music  going  into  a  more  symphonic  musical  direction  as  well  as  letting  the  post  rock  elements  kick  in  a  lot  more  and  you  can  also  hear  some  clean  singing  being  utilized  in  the  track.

Gamardah Fungus/Two Hemispheres, Two Worlds/Turbinicarpus/2010 CD Review

This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Gamardah  Fungus  which  shows  them  continuing  their  mixture  of  dark  ambient, harsh noise, drone,  jazz, blues, sludge  and  funeral  doom  metal  with  the  album  being  released  by  Turbinicarpus  in  2010 and  called  "Two  Hemispheres,  Two  Worlds".

People noises  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean  guitars  a  few  seconds  later  along  with  some  distorted  and  melodic  guitar  leads  which  leads  up  to  some  heavy  guitar  riffs  that  combine  drone  and  funeral  doom  metal  together  and  they  also  bring  in  a  good  mixture  of  both  clean  and  heavy parts.

On  the  second  track  more  ambient  style  noises  are  added  into  the  music  along  with  some  melodic  Turkish  style  chanting  and  just  like  with  the  last  album  each  song  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  sounds  different  from each  other  with  the  3rd track  bringing  in  elements  of  jazz  music  which  they  also  mix  in  with  the  heavier  side  of  their  musical  sound  and  the  following  song  sees  more  harsh  noises  being  mixed  in  with  some  melodic guitar  leads  which  also  bring  in  elements  of  blues  rock,  on  the  last  track  melodic  chants  and  church  choirs  are  added  into  the  music.

Gamardah  Fungus  changes  there  sound  quite  a  bit  on  this  album  and  while  it  still  has  its  drone,  sludge  and  funeral  doom  moments  it  also  has  a  relaxed  smooth  jazz  atmosphere  at  times  along  with  a  great  amount  of  drones  and  noises  and  also  on  this  recording  there  are  some  melodic  vocals  being  used  briefly  and  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  heavy  sound  to  it.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Gamardah  Fungus  and  if  you  are  looking  for  something  dark,  evil  and  experimental,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Kurtulus"  and  "Black  Ode  To  White  Cherub".  8  out  of  10.

All of  the  acoustic  guitars  are  utilized  with  finger  picking  and  a  few  seconds  after  electric  guitar  riffs  and  melodic  leads  are  added  into  the  music  and  they  bring  in  elements  of  funeral  doom  metal  and  sludge,  every  song  on  the  album  has  a  very  different  sound  to  it  and  the  4th  track  has  a  guitar  lead  that  displays  a  great  amount  of  talent  and  skill  which  are  also  mixed  in  with  some  harsh  noises  which  continues  on  the  other  tracks  as  well  and  they  also  mix  in  some  jazz  fusion  and  the  last  track  brings  in  elements  of  dark  ambient  and  atmospheric  music.

Kauan/Pirut/Blood Music/2013 CD Review

Kauan  are  a  band  with  members  from  both  Russia  and  Ukraine  that  plays  funeral  doom  metal  with  elements  of  folk  music  and  post  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Pirut"  which  was  released  by  Blood  Music.

Nature  sounds  and  drones  start  off  the  album  and  they  give  the  music  an  ambient  and  avant  garde  sound  and  after  awhile  violins  are  added  into  the  music  which  leads  up  to  a  funeral  doom  metal  direction  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  a  few seconds  later  melodic  vocals  and  depressing  sounding  keyboards  start  becoming  a  part  of  the  bands  musical  sound.

When  growls  and  screams  are  added  into  the  music  they  bring  in  influences  from  black  and  death  metal  and  the  music  on  this  album  is  a  40  minute  long  track  that  is  divided  into  8  different  sections  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to them,  when  guitar  leads  are  added  into t he  music  they  bring  a  melodic  early  90's  U.K  doom/death  metal  sound  to  the  music.

Post  rock  is  a  huge  part  of  the  bands  musical  style  and  there  are  also  a  lot  of  classical  elements  being  displayed  throughout  the  recording  along  with  some  progressive rock  and  folk  music  and  as  the  album  progresses  acoustic guitars  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  all  8  parts  sound  very  different  from  each  other.

Kauan  bring  a  lot  of  diversity  into  their  40  minute  track  with  the  music's  foundation  being  mostly  in  a  funeral  doom/death  metal  direction  but  with  elements of  black  metal,  post  rock,  psychedelic,  classical  and  folk  music  also  being  displayed  in  the  song,  the  production  has  a  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in Russia  and  cover  dark  and  depressing  themes.

In  my  opinion  Kauan  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  funeral  doom  metal,  post  rock  and  folk  music  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should c heck  out  this  band.  8/5  out  of  10.
